The skin of the face is very delicate. It is permanently exposed to the sun, air, cold, and heat and, therefore, it is one of the areas in which we must take the most excellent care.

Lately, apple cider vinegar has been promoted, promising beneficial effects such as removing blemishes, achieving glowing skin, removing wrinkles, and stopping skin aging, but is this true? Can the use of this bring any benefit? Substance as a beauty treatment? If you want to know more about this topic, continue reading this article by FastlyHealabout its benefits and how to use apple cider vinegar for the face.

What is apple cider vinegar?

Apple cider vinegar is a substance obtained from apple juice. It must undergo an alcoholic fermentation process, thus securing apple cider. Then, it undergoes a second fermentation process, and thus acetic acid, also known as vinegar, is obtained.

Benefits of apple cider vinegar for the face

The antibacterial properties of apple cider vinegar are known. Which are used, for example, for cleaning the home, fruits, and vegetables. Its use is widespread in medical practice when complicated skin infections have to be treated, such as the ear (external otitis) or the hair follicle (shaving folliculitis). Also, to relieve itching from insect bites and in the case of warts, as a gentler way to eliminate them, since it has been seen that its use has a keratolytic action, that is, it exfoliates the outermost area of the skin. In these cases, the treatment is done by diluting the acetic acid in pure water (between 1 to 6.5%) and is usually associated with antibiotics directly applied to the area to be treated.

In recent times, attempts have been made to extend the use of vinegar in cosmetics. It is supposed to improve the appearance of the skin and reduce the effects of the sun and the passage of time (such as spots and fine wrinkles), leaving the skin on the face smoother and brighter.

However, the truth so far is that there are no serious studies that take this practice for granted. During the preparation of this article, different magazines and scientific media, traditional, homeopathic, and natural medicine, have been consulted. Still, no results have been found that support the use of apple cider vinegar on the face.

Many studies confirm the benefits of apples and apple juice extract, whether consumed daily or applied to the skin, to improve its appearance and treat diseases like acne and psoriasis. This is due to compounds called polyphenols. Polyphenols have different properties:

  • Antioxidants
  • Anti-inflammatories.
  • They favor the regeneration of the skin.

Multiple diseases can be improved by consuming apple polyphenols (also present in other foods such as fruits and vegetables, chocolate, olive oil, and green tea). This, accompanied by a healthy diet, regular exercise, and the search for an emotional balance, can cure all kinds of pathologies, such as asthma, obesity, high cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes, and even different types of cancer.

Now, translating the benefits of polyphenols into vinegar is a very different thing. Vinegar has already been proven to be harmful to health if consumed regularly. Not only are there polyphenols, but there are also too many harmful acids. Likewise, this substance applied to the skin, undiluted and daily, can generate damage rather than benefits since it can generate burns and irritation and therefore stain the skin.

Some commercial preparations include acetic acid in their formula. It is the case with acne cream. This cream, supposedly, would reduce the inflammation and infection that exists in this disease, improving the appearance of the skin. Still, no serious studies have been found that speak of this benefit or of the adverse effects that the daily use of a cream that can cause contains apple cider vinegar.

How to use apple cider vinegar for your face

If you are looking to improve the appearance of the skin of the face, the constant use of pure apple cider vinegar, diluted or combined with facial creams, is not recommended.

As has been seen, the effects on the skin are pretty strong. It is used to treat stubborn infections, warts, and bites.

Nor is the habit of dressing or consuming products with vinegar (vinaigrettes, pickles) recommended since its daily use damages health. It is better to replace it with lemon, which is much richer in beneficial properties for the body.

If you want to use apple cider vinegar, instead of doing it to clean your home and even fruits and vegetables before consuming them, but yes, wash well with water later to avoid consuming this substance daily.
