Hip injuries and diseases

by Alivia Nyhan

Hip injuries and diseases are common problems in the United States. According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, about 20% of Americans experience a hip injury at some point in their lives. The most common causes of hip injuries are falls, car accidents, and sports injuries.

A person can suffer from several hip injuries, including hip fractures, dislocated hips, and hip bursitis. Hip fractures are the most severe type of hip injury and can often require surgery to repair. Dislocated hips occur when the hip joint ball pops out of the socket. This can be a severe injury and may require surgery to correct.

What causes hip disorders?

Most hip disorders are caused by wear and tear on the hip joint. This can be from arthritis, bursitis, or tendinitis. Other causes can be injury, infection, or tumors. Some hip disorders can be genetic.
