What do I do when my child has a fever?

When your child has a fever, it is important to monitor their temperature and symptoms. If the fever is accompanied by other symptoms, such as a rash, difficulty breathing, or persistent crying, it is important to seek medical attention. However, for most fevers, home treatment is all that is needed. Give your child plenty of fluids, dress them in light clothing, and apply a cool, damp cloth to their forehead. If the fever persists or your child is uncomfortable, you can give them a fever-reducing medication, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
