Autosome concept
Autosomes are all those chromosomes that are not a sex chromosome and that appear in somatic cells as a homologous pair. Human beings have 22 pairs of autosomes , the 23rd pair of chromosomes corresponds to sexual characteristics, which is why it is known as X or Y or also as heterochromosomes or gonosomes. In other words, of our 46 chromosomes, 44 are autosomes and only 2 are sexual.
